John Blake - Mehr Luft

23 July - 27 August 1994

The project I have named MEHR LUFT is an open series of autonomous works - though some components are interchangable with others - meant to take shape over a period of time spent travelling through a spatial network related, but quite distinct, from its own. In other words MEHR LUFT`s shape is a circuit to be seen within the context of another circuit - a network within an network - self-contained not through one set objecthood, but rather through a chain of memories easy to link and cross-reference. The Project as a work could be compared to a novel, an accumlation of linked chapters, or a symphony with its set of fixed movements, though it has no literary or symphonic pretense - it avoids such transliteration- but it stays on line with a more flexible analog of contemporary experience of ‘form’ than that annexed by much normal art practice, proposing expressive freedoms but most usually within inept Euclidean or Cartesian constraints...John Blake
